“I think women’s football will only continue to grow with the changes I’m seeing and the records that are breaking. Women’s football is on the rise.”
⸺Who is Miriam Omasoro?
Hi my name is Miriam; i’m currently a student and i am an avid watcher of both womens and mens football. I haven’t played football before but I support Man United and have been since I was young, because my older sister used to play and is also a Man United fan so I followed in her footsteps.
⸺How long have you been watching women’s football and have you noticed any changes within the sport?
I have been watching since 2022. My interested started to pick up around that time due to the Women’s Euro’s as I wanted to follow along with their journeys. And prior to the Euro’s i’d watch the Premier Leauge occasionally. But when the 2022 Euros started, it was the first time I watched a women’s competition from start to finish.
Each season I have seen how new initiatives have been made to bring awareness to the beauty of the women's game.
⸺What impact do you think the Fifa 2023 Women's World Cup had on women?
I think it really showed the quality that women’s football possessed , it put to bed the stereotypes made about women’s football.
⸺What changes/actions do you think could be made to encourage more diverse players/fans, younger girls to continue playing and support our current players?
Young girls should grow up with the exposure of not only football but many other sports whether that’s football or rugby, they should see it as something they can aspire to be.
⸺How do you view the future of women's football?
I think women’s football will only continue to grow with the changes I’m seeing and the records that are breaking. Women’s football is on the rise.
